He competed in Mr Handsome Venezuela 1998, where he come in second runner up but had rights to represent Venezuela in Manhunt International 1999 in China. Jose also competed in Mr America Continent where he becoming eventual champion. After the reigning moment Maldonia becoming famous and acted in many Venezuelan Telenovelas. He eventually quit as runaway model and give 100% his career in acting.
